Tension
10 sts = 10 cm; 25 rows = 20 cm in dc with the smaller hook.

Special Stitches
BPdc (Back Post Double Crochet) = insert hook from back to front to back
around st, yarn over and draw loop through, yarn over and draw through 2
loops on hook.
Tr2tog (Treble Two Together) = [yarn over twice, insert hook into next st,
yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops] twice,
yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
Sh (Shell) = (tr, [ch 1, tr] 4 times) all in st.
Mermaid tail
Round 1: Beginning at the waist, with the larger hook and A, ch 60; join
with a slip st in the first ch to form a ring, being careful that the ch is
not twisted; change to the smaller hook; ch 1, dc in each ch around; join
with a slip st in the first dc—60 dc.
Eyelet Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as tr plus ch 1), skip first 2 dc, * tr in next
dc, ch 1, skip next dc; repeat from * around; join with a slip st to the 2nd
ch of the ch-3.
Round 3: Ch 1, dc in each tr and ch-1 space around; join to the first dc.
Change to the larger hook.
Round 4: With the larger hook, ch 3 (counts as the first tr here and
throughout), skip the first dc, tr in each dc around; join to the top of the
ch-3—60 tr.
Round 5: Ch 1, * BPdc; repeat from * around; join to the first dc—60 BPdc.
Round 6: Ch 3, skip the first dc, tr in each dc around; join.
Repeat Rounds 5 and 6 12 (13, 14, 14) times more.
Next Round: Repeat Round 5.
Next Round: Ch 1, skip the first dc, tr in the next dc (beginning tr2tog
made), * tr2tog; repeat from * around; join to the top of the first tr—30
sts.

Repeat the last 2 rounds 3 times more. Fasten off, leaving a 30 cm tail for
sewing.
Tail Indent
Lay the garment flat with the yarn tail centered (front). With a yarn needle
and the 30 cm tail of yarn, begin in the centre of the last round of the
Tail, weave the strand through the centre of the stitches in a vertical line
up to the marked round, then put the needle and yarn through both layers of
the fabric to the opposite (back) side and weave down through the centre of
the stitches; draw up firmly to form an "indent" and fasten the yarn
securely.
Vertical Lines
Holding the larger hook and A on the right side of the fabric of the front,
join yarn in a st on the marked round about 5 cm away from the Tail Indent;
work a vertical chain st on the surface only up to Round 5 near the waist.
Fasten off.
Repeat the 2nd vertical line approximately 10 cm from the first.
Remove the marker.
Waist Trim
Round 1: With the larger hook, join A to work in the unused loops of the
beginning ch; ch 1, dc in the same st as joining, * skip 2 ch, Sh in the
next ch, skip 2 dc **, dc in the next ch; repeat from * around, ending at
**; join to the first dc.
Round 2: Slip st to the first ch-1 space; ch 1, dc in the same ch-1 space,
[ch 3, dc in the next ch-1 space] 3 times, * dc in the next ch-1 space, [ch
3, dc in the next ch-1 space] 3 times; repeat from * around; join. Fasten
off.
Drawstring
With the larger hook and A, make a 75 cm ch; slip st in the 2nd ch from the
hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Weave the drawstring through the
spaces of Eyelet Round 2.
Mermaid tom
Back
** Row 1 (Right Side): With the smaller hook and B, ch 25 (27, 27, 29); dc
in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn—24 (26, 26, 28) dc.
Row 2: Ch 1, dc in each dc across; turn.
Repeat Row 2 until 14 (16, 16, 18) rows have been completed.
Shape Armhole
Row 1: Slip st across the first 2 dc; ch 1, dc in the next 20 (22, 22, 24)
dc; turn, leaving the last 2 dc unworked.
Row 2: Ch 1, skip the first dc, dc in each dc to the last 2 dc, skip the
next dc, dc in the last dc; turn—18 (20, 20, 22) dc. **
Row 3: Ch 1, dc in each dc across; turn.
Mark each end of the last row. Repeat Row 3 until 8 (10, 10, 12) rows have
been completed for the Armhole.
Shape Shoulder-Next Row: Ch 1, dc in the first 4 dc; turn.
Next Row: Ch 1, dc in 4 dc. Fasten off.
Opposite Shoulder
Skip 10 (12, 12, 14) dc of the last long row for the neck, join B in the
next dc; ch 1, dc in the last 4 dc; turn.
Next Row: Ch 1, dc in 4 dc. Fasten off.
Front
Work the same as for the Back from ** to **.
Shape Armhole
Row 3: Repeat Row 2—16 (18, 18, 20) dc.
Mark each end of the last row.
Row 4: Ch 1, dc in each dc across; turn.
Divide for Neck/Shoulder-Next Row: Ch 1, dc in the first 7 dc; turn—7 dc.
Next Row: Ch 1, skip the first dc, dc in the next 6 dc; turn—6 dc.
Next Row: Ch 1, dc in the first 4 dc, skip the next dc, dc in the last dc;
turn—5 dc.
Next Row: Ch 1, skip the first dc, dc in the next 4 dc; turn—4 dc.

Opposite Shoulder

Repeat for the opposite armhole.
Right Armhole Ruffle
Row 1: With the right side facing, join yarn 3 rows directly below the
marker on the Back and working through the fabric, ch 1, work 3 dc across 3
rows through the fabric up to the marker, work 13 (19, 19, 25) dc evenly
across the dc of the Trim to the next marker on the Front, work 3 dc across
3 rows through the fabric directly down from the marker; turn—19 (25, 25,
31) dc.
Row 2: Ch 1, dc in the same dc, * skip 2 ch, Sh, skip 2 dc, dc in the next
dc; repeat from * across; turn.
Round 3: Slip st to the first ch-1 space; ch 1, dc in the same ch-1 space,
[ch 3, dc in the next ch-1 space] 3 times, * dc in the next ch-1 space, [ch

Fasten off.
Repeat for the Left Armhole beginning at the marker on the Front.
