MATERIALS


Light (DK) weight cotton yarn:
1¾ oz/82 yds/50g each green, light green, red, cream, and white
Small amount black
Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Cardboard (optional)
Polyester fiberfill
Fabric glue
GAUGE
4 sc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES


Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Santa Cones are worked in continuous rounds; do not join unless otherwise stated. Place stitch marker at the beginning of the round and move up as each round is completed.
Beard and Mustache are worked in turned rows and sewn to Cone.
Cone begins with 2 chains and 9 single crochet worked into 2nd chain. If desired, begin instead with Slip Ring (see illustration), chain 1 and work stitches in ring. Pull gently on beginning tail to close ring after round 1 is completed.

SPECIAL STITCH

Make 1 each with red (MC) and green (MC).

BASE


Rnd 1: With MC, ch 2, 9 sc in 2nd ch from hook (see Pattern Notes). Do not join, place marker in first sc (see Pattern Notes). (9 sc)
Rnd 2: Inc (see Special Stitch) in each stitch around. (18 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, inc in next st] around. (27 sc)
Rnd 4: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 5: [Sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st] around. (36 sc)
Rnd 6: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 7: Working in back loops (see Stitch Guide), rep rnd 4.
Rnd 8 & 9: Rep rnd 4.
Optional: Trace circumference of Base on cardboard and cut out. Place circle in WS of Base (see Pattern Notes).

CONE


Rnd 10: [Sc in next 10 sts, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts] around. (33 sc)
Rnd 11: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 12: [Sc in next 9 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (30 sc)
Rnd 13: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 14: [Sc in next 8 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (27 sc)
Rnds 15 & 16: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 17: [Sc in next 7 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (24 sc)
Rnds 18 & 19: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 20: [Sc in next 6 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around, changing color (see Stitch Guide) to cream in last st. (21 sc)
Rnds 21–23: Rep rnd 4.
Stuff (see Pattern Notes) and shape piece and continue to stuff and shape as work progresses.
Rnd 24: [Sc in next 5 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 25: Rep rnd 4, change color to white.
Rnds 26 & 27: Rep rnd 4.
Rnd 28: [Sc in next 4 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around, change color to MC. (15 sc)
Rnds 29 & 30: Rep rnd 4.

STRIPED SANTA


With green, work Base same as Solid Santa.

CONE


Rnds 10–18 and 29–36: Work same as rnds 10–18 and 29–36 of Solid Cone, changing color as shown in Color Sequence (see Color Sequence) at end of each even-numbered row.
Rnds 19–28: Work same as rnds 19–28 of Solid Cone, changing color to light green at end of last rnd.

ALL SANTAS


BEARD
Row 1: With white and leaving a 6-inch tail, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (12 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st in 2nd st, sc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in last st. Fasten off, leaving a 9-inch tail. (12 sts)

MUSTACHE


Make 2.
With white, ch 7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs, dc (3 dc, sl st) in last ch. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch tail. (9 sts)

FINISHING


Wrap Beard around the center front of Cone and sew in place to rnd 22.
Sew Mustache to the center front of Cone, just above Beard, and making sure Mustache pieces touch in center. Add a drop of glue to the back of each piece to hold in place.

EYE


Make 2.

With black and tapestry needle, embroider 2 straight stitches (see illustration) at rnds 25 in an inverted V, leaving 2 or 3 sts between eyes.

SNOWFLAKES

With white, embroider 3 straight stitches in a snowflake pattern as shown, randomly placing as many as desired around the lower portion of Cone.

HOLLY

With light green and working randomly around the lower portion of Cone, embroider 3 small straight stitches, drop yarn from needle, do not cut or secure.
At the bottom point, with red, embroider 2 French knots (see illustration) for berries. Pick up light green and embroider small straight stitches next to berries for leaves.
